Societies agree to cooperate over National Bariatric Surgery Registry (NBSR) - Submitted: 1st December 08

Dendrite Clinical Systems is delighted to announce that the Councils of two Associations and one Society have agreed to the joint launch of a National Bariatric Surgery Registry (NSBR) using Dendrites web registry technology

The Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (ALS), the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS) and the Bariatric, Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) have recognised for some time the need for a national reporting database for bariatric surgery. Following careful negotiations, a jointn agreement was reached to support the NBSR, which will be managed by a joint committee representing the three collaborators and chaired by a BOMSS representative.

ALS has committed considerable effort and investment to the creation of such a database using Dendrites proven national web registry software, and BOMSS and AUGIS recognise this achievement and welcome the opportunity to manage this database in equal partnership with ALS. All three parties believe the creation of the NBSR is in the best interests of patients, surgeons and of their organisations.

Dr Peter K.H. Walton (Dendrites Managing Director) pictured here with Mr Mike Parker, (the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons) commented Dendrite is delighted to so closely involved with this important project.

It is especially exciting to see that the Specialist Commissioners recognise the huge potential value of this database and will be making data entry mandatory for all NHS bariatric surgery contracts

Aims of the NBSR

The National Bariatric Surgery Registry is designed to capture data and report on outcomes from different types of bariatric surgery. The key objective of the Registry is to gather sufficient data to allow the publication of a comprehensive report (to be published by Dendrite Clinical Systems) on the number and type of procedures, as well as outcomes following surgery.

This will be achieved through the collection of data at the individual patient level, which can then be used to track individuals and groups of patients.
Access to the database and the reports will be made freely available to all contributors. All data collected through the registry will remain the property of the contributing surgeon/s and the ALS, AUGIS and BOMSS.

Please register your interest in the NBSR

The Registry can be accessed using Microsofts Internet Explorer (Version 7.0 or above) web browser, allowing registrants to enter data without the need to install additional software or implement any complex system configurations.

This web-based system allows the individual clinician to enter patient information onto a database whether in hospital, from an office-based practice or even at home. Clinicians can add as many cases as they wish and where possible they will be encouraged to put on retrospective data (if applicable).
If you or a colleague/s are interested in registering, please complete the online registration form @: http://nbsr.e-dendrite.com or http://www.bariatricdatabasealsgbi.org - Alternatively, email registrationsupport@e-dendrite.com or phone +44 (0) 1491 411 288
